If you were to think of the best markets in the world, places such as Portobello, the Grand Bazaar, or “El Rastro” would be the first to come to mind. But, if you were to think of a hippy market, undoubtedly the first name that comes to mind is the spectacular Ibizan market of Las Dalias.
This amazing marketplace, located in San Carlos, Ibiza, first began in 1954, starting out with only a handful of craftsman stands. Now, the market is a popular tourist attraction, constantly buzzing with life. With over 200 independent trader stands, Las Dalias has since been declared a point of interest by the City Council of Santa Eulalia del Rio.
Original, pioneering and innovative, Las Dalias is definitely a place worth visiting. Full of breathtaking colour and talent, the market combines crafts, jewelry and live music to create a pleasant and fun atmosphere. This being said, Las Dalias also offers the chance to relax with a massage, or the opportunity to see your future with hand reading and tarot cards. The market is a fantastic place to lose yourself, let your imagination fly and leave all of your stress behind!
Within the Las Dalias garden, you will find a restaurant, a tapas bar, several other bars, a natural juice stand and last but not least a traditional moroccan Berber Jaima, where you can enjoy a selection of tea's and sweet treats. You can also enjoy an afternoon in the “Soul Bar”, with music from the best DJ's in Las Dalias.
The market's are open every Saturday, and a night market is open every Sunday, Monday and Tuesday during the summer, and if you come to Ibiza in the winter, don’t forget to visit the Christmas markets!
If you are interested in knowing more secrets and stories of this happy hippy market, the Las Dalias Organisation have recently released a book for its 60th anniversary detailing the history, milestones and challenges of this charming Ibiza marketplace.
